- The Japanese tank tech tree in War Thunder is probably best known for its modern autoloaded main battle tanks, but that style of vehicle shows up earlier than you would think. The ST-A3 is an early cold war medium with a rangefinder, autoloader, and HEAT shells. It is exceptionally potent and fun to play.

1:37 A nice mental shortcut that works for most tanks is - the gunner is usually on the same side as the commander ('s cupola). The loader needs more space to wiggle around the turret to grab the ammo, so he's usually on his own.

I think every single turreted US WW2 era tank has the gunner on the left facing the tank.
modern usa, tanks also left side, but ifv like bradley, british tank and autoloaded tanks, soviet tank (autoloader or not,ww2 and modern) are right side

It's pretty good once you learn ammo racks
Good to keep both, but it's difficult to choose which one to keep loaded.

It's also good for going up against those pesky cheese wedge Strv 103s.
The turret pop on that 76 jumbo is the equivalent of when Master Chief took his helmet off to reveal a second helmet underneath.
I know of a certain french medium tank at 8.0 that also gets full auto aphe on an AMX 50 chassis...
I'm grinding it now.. it sucks. It's slower than mediums and can't pen any slightly sloped armour. Same goes for all the other apbc rounds at that tier, even the 120mm one

@@tornadok1078 I have a better light tank at 7.7, EBR. The AMX-50 (T090/930) is fun as well. Aphe makes a lot of tanks pop.

@benni1015 yeah tell me about that,i'm grinding Italy after finishing USA and i'm at 6.7 right now and the combined lack of a proper lineup,proper competitive lineup,SPAA and even good light vehicle (the 6614 is not that good) is driving me absolutely insane.
Today i finished researching the C13 and i started the research on the M47,then i'll go for the BTR-80,ZSU, move to 7.7 and then research the R3 106 and the OF-40

@imnomoremaverick at 6.7 you have the Fiat the auble and the m26. It's not the greatest but somewhat usable. I would recommend getting the t106 as fast as possible though. It really is a breath of fresh air, the speed is unparalleled imo. 8.0 isn't the greatest lineup, but the T106 is worth the suffering imo.
oh my god I just unlocked the Italian pershing and why is that thing at 6.7?? You are mostly fighting long 88s which can cut through you like butter. The gun is mediocre and you need apcr to pen most things you face. Also the super pershing which is literally the pershing upgraded is the same br? Like how does that make any sense.

When you said “gonna hook up to the dialysis machine” I immediately thought of how a space marine from 40k suits up
Type 61 and ST-A3 both get rangefinder. Type 61 works as a very nice backup for ST-A3
They're just side grades to one another really.
One gets an autoloader and the other gets smokes, but to be fair most people would pick the autoloader.
Both can even be bought to the 7.3 lineup consisting of the M47, Type 99 SPH, and Ho Ri Prod. And still work very well as its a M47 in 6.7 without armor and reverse.
Thanks for playing ST-A3, one of my nuke tanks and favorite tanks alongside Ho-Ri Production. Ho-Ri is great, good mobility, armor, and gun. Got 2 succesful nuke and 1 failed in one session.

If you meant the tray things that are attached onto the rear side of the turret, those are not smoke launchers but they are for holding jellycan :)
Japan didn't put smoke launchers onto their Type 61 until 1980s, the ST-A 3 i is built in the late 50s.
You know what else is goofy? The CA Lorraine’s 100mm shell that can penetrate a panther’s front plate

Another thing that is very goofy is playing the 9.3 Sprut but with HE only. Seeing leopards completely disintegrate at the hands of 3OF26 is hilarious.

Day 44 of telling spookston to play the IT1. its a ATGM launcher on the t62 chassis, it has decent-ish mobility, the turret is squished. You can hide behind cover and shoot ATGM over the cover like a gremlin and you overpressure tanks (tho it can be rare, but it does happen without you realizing) and its MG is really werid. Also it has a cool reload animation.
The roof mounted mg lowkey is amazing because you can peek out of cover and bully light vehicles with it

Day 148 You should play a tank with hydropneumatic suspension (recommend the MBT-70) But the catch is you have to drop the suspension as low as it can go for the whole match.
Spookston just has that editing style that'll get some laughs or chuckles outta me, keep it up.

I love the ST-A3 and Type 61. They are such good tanks in Rank 4 Japan even though they have one play style. I think Rank 5 Japan is when the Mobility kicks in as another Play style.
Another fun tank in around the same BR is the Type 60 SPRG. Especially it now technically has 20 rounds of ammo with the new ammo box mechanic it is so much more playable now. And ofc the Type 75 needs no introduction. Japan rank 4 is peak.

Hey Spookston. I hope your doing well from your surgery. Its was nice today coming home to lunch seeing Your vid pop up. Also the Panther F is really fun at 6.0 with a long 75mm and rangefinder :D
You really have to play this tank. it's the fv4202, a british medium tank that is very modern for its BR because its essentially a chieftain turret with a centurion hull, so this makes it great for hull down engagements, it has a 20pdr gun that is very goood and its quite fun. (Day 40)
I love how Spookston edit his video, a capability to make random "sheit" more funny, or make somethings not funny to become funny. Like when you put 'i woke up in new Bugatt" when t-34-57 went pass between you and American tank. 🤣🤣

4:24 the side of the T29/T34's turret is about 156mm thick and very heavily sloped. The M82 shot only having in the ballpark of 180mm flat pen will struggle if the angle is anything but completely flat.
