I think the sudden shift from Al Qatala to the Mexican Cartels was always the plan even before Taylor left due to creative differences. I say this because back then Jeff Leach said during one of his livestreams how he read the Ghost prequel comic in advance for MW2’s Campaign. In the prequel comic Simon’s family is killed by a drug lord, Manuel Roba, and is framed for their murders leading to him becoming Ghost. On top of that, a lot of cosmetics in MW2019 could’ve been hinting at MW2’s setting since some calling cards and even one operator skin were blatant references to the movie Sicario. I’m thinking originally Ghost was gonna play the role that Alejandro had in Sicario where he really only joins the team to get revenge for his family by killing the drug lord responsible. By doing this IW would’ve shown off exactly where the reboot diverges from the original story since Manuel Roba did die at the end of the comic but here he would’ve still been alive by 2022.
I really like both versions of Ghost, but it seemed obvious that they wanted Ghost to be two separate versions of the same guy. Dark and gritty but also calm and collected So instead of making him how he was in 2019, in MWII they went for something that they thought fans could potentially like and would make or break it. And MWII Ghost does make it most of the time.
Honestly it shows that the 2019 design still works so well as when COD got action figures recently they made a MWII Ghost yet it was instead the 2019 version
ToeZ I am seriously in love with your content. I really hope to see more from this channel and I'll be supporting for a long time for sure. Amazing content, love you dude
One of the thing that make ghost a love character it was that he is normal soldier but with a skeletor mask, and we all have curiosity about him for that in the original mw series, when every aspect of the game was realistic a normal milsim solidiers
This is one of those vids/channel that you admire so much, you watch the whole ad to give as much a revenue boost as you can Because this guy absolutely deserves it Amazing video 👏
I don't like his new mask, like realistically speaking which weirdo would cut the skull off of a person and stitch it there? It's even worse if it's plastic. But even if it's real it's kinda tryhard.
Say whatever you want about spec ops in any game, I automatically have the respect for any game that adds a third non-campaign game mode that helps expand on the lore of a series.
oh thank you for the video and for the time of making the researches ! you did a pretty good job presenting your thoughts on Ghost and his different phases.. i enjoyed a lot watching, but i finished the video a bit sad that Ghost of Verdansk may never be in the game with us anymore (and so his jaw in the mask 😔) cause he had great potential to be more unique !
There was a theory a friend of mine brought up, the storyline we have now of the new Modern Warfare is set in an alternative timeline, which is also tied to entire Zombies Franchise of Call of Duty, due to Ultimis and Primis. Due to the ending cutscene we got in Tag Der Toten.
Same, Graves’ death was very much an obvious “he’s still alive” from the second MW2 released. We don’t hear him reacting to the tank being blown up, we never even see him get into the damn thing for fucks sake lol Infinity Ward pretty clearly intended to have him “killed off” as a midway boss battle, and re-introduced via DMZ lore and seasonal story stuff. Only thing is that COD players don’t keep up with DLC stories (which is why BO6 barely has one) so it just led to mega confusion when Graves showed up in MW2 S5 and MW3. They ought to have explained it before he shows up and talks to Farah because I know a lot of people who had no idea about the seasonal cutscene.
I didn't like the Alex death and then revive thing, because of the impact. But Graves, I understand. We just hear him from a comunicator... It is never shown him on the tank and with the modernization it is possible to control a tank with a computer and redirect the voice transmition, so with Graves I always knew he would come back.
I think the reboot trilogy suffers from success, if you look into the background they did not think the game would blow up like it did. Honestly, you could make another video essay looking at how MW2019 like COD4 before it utterly changed the entire FPS landscape. MW2019s new engine is the staple of the franchise till they make a new one, the structure of gun smith, and just the overall feel of the game. Warzone blew up massively and the devs honestly thought it would flop its why Warzone 1 is so hard coded into MW2019 they didnt build it for scalability they thought it would die in a year like blackout did.
Sam did a stellar job in MW2 Remastered. But there’s just something about Jeff’s selling of the character that stood out to me. I was so immersed the second his character dropped and bought every pack with him in it. Call me a fan boy ❤
@@TheEliteNoodle and what do you even mean Jeff’s selling of the character? He literally only had 2 cutscenes. Majority of his dialogue is just multiplayer quips. Neither of them come close to Craig, but Sam at least actually ACTED as Ghost in an actual Campaign.
@ as I said. Agree to disagree on this bro. But for me even though he didn’t do an acting job in this one. It was just the aura that the character gave off when it was initially launched. I highly commend Sam for his role but just for me the 2019 edition was better for myself :)
@@TheEliteNoodle the “aura” his character projected had little to do with the actual voicework considering there wasn’t much of it that was meaningful. The credit goes to the design team and writers.
I'm subscribing to you for a fact that there are still people who appreciates CoD MW 2019, which I'm still playing it right now, and know that the game improved and enhanced, if not revolutionized, the OG MW series. Thanks for doing this video essay cuz I know the 2019 remake, along with its infamous Warzone, is better than its sequels in terms of everything. Yes, everything.
13:22 I haven’t seen anyone say anything about this yet so I may be wrong but a few of the operators that never popped into the game may have been turned into inspirations for new operators for example I feel like Kilgore may have been turn into Bale,Nebo maybe into Minotaur, and Hooper maybe was turned into Griggs? I may be pulling at strings to make the connection but I sorta feel like a few definitely became inspirations for other operators or a few skins as maybe nods to them?
Hooper I'm pretty sure had an in-game model made for him, there's photo evidence floating around somewhere. He was basically ready for release but for some reason was cut or perhaps reconstructed into Griggs like you say.
Yea this video deserves a lot more views. But you can’t argue that the witting in the 2 newest MWs sucks. And the newest ghost is kinda cringe in my op
I just hope in the next game, due to Soaps death (assuming it doesnt get wiped off the board due to how ass MWIII was) they make Ghost go down a darker path more akin to 2019 Ghost, having lost a team mate who had allowed him to kinda come out of that shell in the first place, perhaps have some missions where you play as an off the grid Ghost taking down Makarovs Forces in his own way, and hell maybe even go completely AWOL to pursue Makarov using his Battlefield investigator skillset.
I actually prefer the original Ghost. Now as a character he’s obviously the weakest between the 3, but between all of them, he’s the most tame. To me he actually acts like a soldier compared to the Reboot where the writers are trying to make him out as an over-the-top Punisher-esq character with superhuman abilities. 2009 Ghost doesn’t feel like a bunch of Hollywood writers trying to come up with the most badass “Dwayne the Rock Johnson” archetype. He’s just another soldier, and he just wears a mask that makes him distinct. Reboot Ghost simply feels like the writers wanted to capitalize off the legacy of the character, which is most obvious with his ovurdesgined mask, as compared to a simple balaclava that had a skull design on it.
You hit the nail on the head. The reboot Ghost is catered specifically towards edgy 12 year olds. People have this misconception that OG Ghost was the same but he was actually more of a boba fett type - a background character with a cool design that stuck with people. Now Ghost as a character has gotten so blown out of proportion that the fans see him as “Call of Duty’s Batman”, which isn’t a good thing. These special forces operators aren’t boogeymen, they’re still as vulnerable and easy to kill as your regular infantry grunt, the og trilogy made it a point to show that.
@@spoodurmin9742MW is not realistic little hater, shit like a nuke going out and betrayals everywhere are not something that happens in the military. Even the OG MW1 had the most hollywood story in all the saga, and all the plahefs knew that and talked about it 😂
Low key won't get seen but I say we petition to bring Jeff Leach back and make him our ghost full time. Like I'm sorry everything @ToeZ said in this video hit. The ghost most of the community plays today feels way too basic like the 09 Ghost and idk just as an Old Head who played those games back then and then stuck around long enough to see the reboot and who played Ghost....listen man no disrespect to Craig Fairbass but Jeff Leech annihilated this role. Like when I first saw that cut scene for the first time my jaw dropped I was like "NOW, THATS GHOST!!" All buddy is missing is Roach and I mean I literally won't have a problem with the reboot but to bring 85% of the people back from the other TL but not Roach even if he never talked really sat right with me. Even if it's just as a non-talkive operator to play I just need Roach back in the universe. Also, the other thing was soap. The OG should have played soap, they should have kept his OG designs even in the reboot of 19. Like I just never liked the new soap. I was way too emotionally attached to the OG soap and that's mainly because of everything that we played and experienced with him throughout 3 games and watching him lose his life like that and Price lose his shit and become the ghost for the rest of that game will forever be the greatest payback moment of all time.
Sorry but taking the bottom jaw away just made him look goofy as fuck. And the fact that you can see his eyes more just took away from his intimidation factor that would otherwise strike fear into the hearts of his enemies if they left his eyes hidden in the shadows of the mask. Although I do prefer the og ghost esthetic as far as just a skull mask vs the skull sewn onto the face balaclava. 2019 Simon ghost Riley was way more superior than any version of him. I would love to have seen them leave him as 2019 ghost. The potential of that character was lost and made him cheesy esthetically.took away from the intimidation factor and Gave ewh bruh just ewh
Ghost should have been a character with nothing but such fully merc, lone wolf and cold blooded killer instead having characteristics with ghost by himself shouldn’t have it. His own outfit, his own actions and his own personality with skull and his tactics should be enough to speak which is this character. Like Keegan that’s his explain. Also there were an other character in the multiplayer by the name of mace with metal Mask. I was thinking if there is a probability chance that ghost was working alone and being rogue soldier for himself, there probably ghost had his own unit with other members with this black operator with mask. Wish give an all meaning of ghost faction exists in this universe but nope. Anyway ghost should have been such rogue soldier by himself and have nothing to do except being working with part time with 141.
24:00 we like ghost cause blah blah blah blah blah WRONG WRONG WE like ghost because he has a skeleton mask and he don’t talk. That’s it. And dudes 1/8 Nightcrawler always comes out of the shadows when you need him even if you last seen him in France and now you’re in Egypt.
Modern warfare 2019 and modern warfare it's not the same, modern warfare 2 and modern warfare 2 it's not the same, Modern warfare 3 and modern warfare 3, same, it's not the same.
I prefer mw2 2022s rendition of ghost to the 2019 version simply because I think they both have absolutely awful designs, but atleast 2022 has a personality I can latch onto. That skull mask is so genuinely goofy looking I can’t remotely take him seriously.
The mw19 ghost design look bigger than mw2 or mw3 for me. The long sleeves make ghost look skinny. He not skinny i know, ghost look big than any character in mw2 and 3, But he not as scary as mw19.
The ghost “glaze” is so overdone at this point. These people aren’t the fucking avengers. The old trilogy made it clear that all of these characters had flaws and weren’t these superhero type “OPERUHTORS!!!”, they were all expendable. It’s hard to take you or this franchise seriously when you’re out here talking about footsteps lmfao “his footsteps are more badass!!!” Seriously?
MW2019 mutiplayer when it came to Gunfight and SND I liked it a lot but other game modes like TDM just wasn’t as great mostly because people only knew how to camp the whole game instead of moving around 🥲 but it did have one of my favorite list of weapons 😌 basically every gun was pretty good. And the maps were ok but they really only work for SND because the spawns were very awful

By doing this IW would’ve shown off exactly where the reboot diverges from the original story since Manuel Roba did die at the end of the comic but here he would’ve still been alive by 2022.
Why did it take me this long to realize that this video was uploaded today????
Like no wonder its so underrated
I really like both versions of Ghost, but it seemed obvious that they wanted Ghost to be two separate versions of the same guy.
Dark and gritty but also calm and collected
So instead of making him how he was in 2019, in MWII they went for something that they thought fans could potentially like and would make or break it. And MWII Ghost does make it most of the time.
Honestly it shows that the 2019 design still works so well as when COD got action figures recently they made a MWII Ghost yet it was instead the 2019 version
Ghost will always be remembered
Thank you for uploading this unique video and also welcome back.
ToeZ I am seriously in love with your content. I really hope to see more from this channel and I'll be supporting for a long time for sure. Amazing content, love you dude
However long you decide to stick around, I appreciate it dude👏🏻
Ghost in mw2 has more of a leadership role since he got promoted to lieutenant, that’s why he’s following orders and giving guidance to soap in mw2
This Video is WAY TOO UNDERRATED
One of the thing that make ghost a love character it was that he is normal soldier but with a skeletor mask, and we all have curiosity about him for that in the original mw series, when every aspect of the game was realistic a normal milsim solidiers
This is one of those vids/channel that you admire so much, you watch the whole ad to give as much a revenue boost as you can
Because this guy absolutely deserves it
Amazing video 👏
2019 ghost feels like the grim reaper. Ghost 2022 feels like a moody cosplayer who knows he’s the bees knees
I don't like his new mask, like realistically speaking which weirdo would cut the skull off of a person and stitch it there? It's even worse if it's plastic. But even if it's real it's kinda tryhard.
Its not a real skull. Its probably just a ballistic skull mask @illuvinium
I hate it, it's so cringe, all version from the reboot
I do prefer the 2009 ghost mask. Its so much better @@doomguy2553
You’re giving the one from 2019 too much credit. He’s no different from the one in 2022.
Great video, I liked the mask change as it kinda gave me "Harsh Times" vibes IE the opening military scene.
Love these long form content videos. Would love to see more from you man! Keep it up!
I feel like anyone in the know, will know who the Ghost of Verdansk is. I can't imagine any grunt or normal civilian will know him by that name.
Am I the only one that Graves and Alex both apparently coming back have a somewhat believable reason?
I unironically don’t think Alex’s sacrifice doesn’t make sense. Why did he have to manually set the explosives off lol
@@agimb2381the detonator was destroyed iirc
No, it's bad and lazy
Same, Graves’ death was very much an obvious “he’s still alive” from the second MW2 released. We don’t hear him reacting to the tank being blown up, we never even see him get into the damn thing for fucks sake lol
Infinity Ward pretty clearly intended to have him “killed off” as a midway boss battle, and re-introduced via DMZ lore and seasonal story stuff.
I totally agree with the playable shadow company mission. It had the OG MW 2 and 3 feeling to it
I think the reboot trilogy suffers from success, if you look into the background they did not think the game would blow up like it did.
Love your videos keep up the good work
Sam did a stellar job in MW2 Remastered. But there’s just something about Jeff’s selling of the character that stood out to me. I was so immersed the second his character dropped and bought every pack with him in it. Call me a fan boy ❤
Sam in MW2 remastered? What are you talking about?
@ Samuel Roukin, the MW2 2022 voice actor. Apologies
The credit goes to the design team and writers.
this was awesome to learn about. and your editing is funny af. keep up the good work Man 💪
I'm subscribing to you for a fact that there are still people who appreciates CoD MW 2019, which I'm still playing it right now, and know that the game improved and enhanced, if not revolutionized, the OG MW series.
Disagree, but I respect it, and this is a hella underrated video cmon yt algorithm give this man the spotlight he deserves!
Yea this video deserves a lot more views. But you can’t argue that the witting in the 2 newest MWs sucks. And the newest ghost is kinda cringe in my op
dont even play any cod but man did i enjoyed this entire video
43:47 FOAP!
Would love a remastered ghost of verdansk skin for ghost due to the maps return featuring the scarf instead if the poncho
1:23:50 bro, got a shovel
A shovel is never not useful :)
he is the soldier from tf2
This was an amazing video.
world's most confusing accent
Amen brother
ghost was also brought back as an outfit for one of the rigs in infinite warfare too :)
Watching this Video makes me want to Go Install Warzone again
Now that I think about it what is Mace was Ajax from ghosts?
Well cool video im gonna sup Because why not
What do you think about Verdansk returning to Warzone?
great Video
I just hope in the next game, due to Soaps death (assuming it doesnt get wiped off the board due to how ass MWIII was) they make Ghost go down a darker path more akin to 2019 Ghost, having lost a team mate who had allowed him to kinda come out of that shell in the first place, perhaps have some missions where you play as an off the grid Ghost taking down Makarovs Forces in his own way, and hell maybe even go completely AWOL to pursue Makarov using his Battlefield investigator skillset.
i’ve got some insane info on jeff leach that only came out last week about his firing. u might wanna hear this.
Mw2 '22s dmz game mode will be the best content that's ever been made for cod up until new dmz content will be made
good vid
28:04 Jack Mitchell… Oh Wait Pretty Sure AW was under rated… I’ll go back under my rock now till AW or Ghosts 2 Comes out
I actually prefer the original Ghost.
True
@@spoodurmin9742MW is not realistic little hater, shit like a nuke going out and betrayals everywhere are not something that happens in the military. Even the OG MW1 had the most hollywood story in all the saga, and all the plahefs knew that and talked about it 😂
1:47 Ryan Hollinger jumpscare
I didn’t know Jesus had an m16 😂😂😂
Low key won't get seen but I say we petition to bring Jeff Leach back and make him our ghost full time. Like I'm sorry everything @ToeZ said in this video hit. The ghost most of the community plays today feels way too basic like the 09 Ghost and idk just as an Old Head who played those games back then and then stuck around long enough to see the reboot and who played Ghost....listen man no disrespect to Craig Fairbass but Jeff Leech annihilated this role. Like when I first saw that cut scene for the first time my jaw dropped I was like "NOW, THATS GHOST!!"
All buddy is missing is Roach and I mean I literally won't have a problem with the reboot but to bring 85% of the people back from the other TL but not Roach even if he never talked really sat right with me.
The potential of that character was lost and made him cheesy esthetically.took away from the intimidation factor and Gave ewh bruh just ewh
testing testing uno dos tres
Call of duty 2019 is actually six years old
Verdaaaaaaaaaaaaaansk
Mace could be Ajax....jk
Sam Roukin def way better. Sounds like Fairbrass
41:55 i remember trying that few months after watchin that vid and gettin dissapointed..
Ghost reminds me of ice bear
39:37 is so da fr!!😂
Ghost should have been a character with nothing but such fully merc, lone wolf and cold blooded killer instead having characteristics with ghost by himself shouldn’t have it. His own outfit, his own actions and his own personality with skull and his tactics should be enough to speak which is this character. Like Keegan that’s his explain. Also there were an other character in the multiplayer by the name of mace with metal
Mask.
Bible 2💀
ghosty poe :3
13:22 Marshawn Lynch 😂
24:00 we like ghost cause blah blah blah blah blah WRONG WRONG
WE like ghost because he has a skeleton mask and he don’t talk.
Well that explains the disjointed feel of the reboots ugh...
Multiplayer was good
You can see ghosts tattoo in mw2 2022 by putting on the ghost red team 141 skin on
This video is full of shits and giggles
during the retrospect section when all those dudes were raging ut was all just skill issue and stupidity🤣
I prefer mw2 2022s rendition of ghost to the 2019 version simply because I think they both have absolutely awful designs, but atleast 2022 has a personality I can latch onto. That skull mask is so genuinely goofy looking I can’t remotely take him seriously.
Nah, even his personality is so bad, edgy bad evil boy on the good guys' side, idk how he got to serve in Special Forces
The mw19 ghost design look bigger than mw2 or mw3 for me. The long sleeves make ghost look skinny. He not skinny i know, ghost look big than any character in mw2 and 3, But he not as scary as mw19.
Well, they ruined the new Ghost
The ghost “glaze” is so overdone at this point. These people aren’t the fucking avengers. The old trilogy made it clear that all of these characters had flaws and weren’t these superhero type “OPERUHTORS!!!”, they were all expendable.
It’s hard to take you or this franchise seriously when you’re out here talking about footsteps lmfao “his footsteps are more badass!!!” Seriously?
Calling 2019 spec ops underwhelming is the most sugar coated take of that mode ive ever heard.
Did they remove the intros from the mw219 ?
Tell me your an IW bot without telling me
MW2019 mutiplayer when it came to Gunfight and SND I liked it a lot but other game modes like TDM just wasn’t as great mostly because people only knew how to camp the whole game instead of moving around 🥲 but it did have one of my favorite list of weapons 😌 basically every gun was pretty good.
And the maps were ok but they really only work for SND because the spawns were very awful
